After discussing “Yahoo boys” in Nigeria, famed artist Seun Kuti is generating online discussion.

Yahoo lads are online scammers who target foreigners. Kuti stated in a viral video that prosecuting scammers won’t alleviate Nigeria’s core issues.

“If they arrest every Yahoo boy in Nigeria today, nothing will change,” Kuti said. He indicates that these scams are a symptom of deeper issues, such as economic hardship or lack of opportunity. Kuti asked why corrupt officials who steal billions from oil income aren’t more in the spotlight.

Kuti has spoken out from his platform regarding Nigerian social issues before. The son of Fela Kuti, Seun is noted for his socially aware music and activism.
